This week has been one of those weeks you hope for in March. The big bass are definitely showing up, and it’s been steady for days. We’ve been catching quality fish every day — not here and there, but consistent big ones.
To give you an idea, we’ve lost count of how many quality bass we’ve caught. It’s been that good. Every day we’ve landed multiple great-quality fish, and throughout the week, we’ve been fortunate to put some truly impressive ones in the boat.
But don’t let me make it sound easy — there’s a lot of dead water right now, and you can spend your whole day doing the wrong thing if you’re not careful. The fish that are available this time of year are in very specific areas and keyed in on certain baits. It’s been different every day with changing conditions, so adjusting has been a big part of staying on them. Not going into any details (that’s for the boat)
Had a great time this week with Johnny and Boyd from Knoxville, and I appreciate them letting me fish with them. We had one of the best days of the week together, and that’s not saying much since it was a blast every day.
I’ve got to take a minute to talk about fishing with Landry. This young man impressed me both days we fished together. He listened to everything I was teaching him and worked his tail off trying to learn a completely new way of fishing. The first day, he caught them really good. The second day, things didn’t go as easy — he struggled a little bit — but he never gave up. He kept working hard at it, and by the end of the day, he was blessed with an absolute monster! It was awesome to watch it all come together for him.
If you’re thinking about getting in on this kind of action, now’s the time to get your April trips lined up. I’m booked for the rest of this month, but I’ve got a few guides ready to go — so if you want to get on the water, reach out and let’s get you set up.
Madness of March is in full swing, and it’s been a fun ride so far. Stay tuned for more updates.

Fishing Forecast – What’s Ahead on Guntersville
Looking at the next few weeks, I fully expect to see a cold front — there always is this time of year. The crazy-good fishing can’t last day in and day out without a few curveballs. But honestly, I don’t think it’ll affect these bass as much as it could. They’ve been bouncing back strong after everything Mother Nature’s thrown at them, and I think they’re ready to roll.
I’m looking for bass to start hitting the beds within the next seven days, and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of it yet. The lake got really cold this winter, and there are a lot of big bass that have been in hiding — they haven’t felt that warm spring water just yet, so I expect big waves of fish to move in every week for the next 2 to 4 weeks.
If you’re looking to catch a personal best, I think we’re about to see a lot of those happen — just like we did this past week.
Now, if you’re chasing crappie, they’ve started to spawn, so the bite is good and should stay that way. We may see a little slowdown for a week or two as they do their thing, but it’s about to get extremely good again as long as the storm this weekend doesn’t mess things up too bad.
If you’re thinking about filling that freezer with crappie, now’s the time to make a move. We’ve got select openings for crappie trips, so if you’re interested, click here to book .
The fishing has been good, and the rising water temps are a big reason why. Check out our Water Temps page to see what’s driving the bite and stay up to date on current conditions.
Bottom line — it’s shaping up to be an awesome spring, and we’re just getting started.
