January Fishing Was Up And Down On Size And Numbers But All In All It Has Been One Of The Better January’s For Fishing. Winter showed up the week of the FLW BFL and I don’t think anyone was surprised, it really kicked the bass in the head, considering the week before we was fishing in short sleeves and the bass were acting like they wanted to lay some eggs, with the typical prespawn bite things were getting good.. Well only one thing can come of this. A prolonged prespawn and I’m sure we will have plenty more cold fronts this year that will just make a man mad.
We’ve seen days where catching 30-40 bass was easy as pie then on the flip side catching 5-10 was challenging… chalk it up to weather and they are swimming not staying put longer then a day or so… They do have fins and they are not afraid to use them haha.. TVA have shut the flood gates on the Guntersville and the avg. outflow is now 47,000 it has been in the 80-100’s so this should loosen the fish up some and let them wonder some more and not be confined to certain areas ( current breaks ) and I believe that will make the fishing a lot better.. it’ll spread out the fishing pressure and should be able to pattern them a lot better..
So what does all this mean? From what I can tell is that this year is shaping up so far to remind me of a year that we had and we exceptional pre spawn with some grown ones and plenty of them. So from now till July Guntersville should produce some awesome fishing. As long as you can keep up with them, they will keep moving as the pressure happens but one thing is for sure is that we will be on their tails and fine tuning the presentations so we can keep our customer putting fish in the boat.
Water Clarity is about a foot and the temps are on the low in 45 and high end 52. ( two weeks ago we seen 63 water temp )
Floating Grass!! Its enough to make a guy put the boat back on the trailer .. its bad people and as the lake begins to rise it will get a lot worse before it gets any better, with all the grass thats been blown up on the banks will now get back into the water and we will have even more to deal with.. and heres the kicker … there isn’t anything we can do about it the current and wind will control it… AKA Mother Nature and we all know how she’s been here lately …
