Lake Guntersville Is Looking Pretty Good With A Lot Of Healthy Bass Swimming Around! We had the Toyota Series here last week and we had decent weather for a change, seems like every time this tournament comes along we get some major weather event. This time we had some rain before it and it did stain the water and changed a few things.
Wish I would’ve taken more pics from practice and of my catch on tournament days. I didn’t have 20+ lbs so I failed in my eyes and on the second day I had too many opportunities to have a bag well over 20lbs but I just wasn’t my time. And I kinda knew that going into it, with my practice being cut short with mechanical problems (alternator) so it was a two days on figuring out( being stranded on the water ) what the problem it was and 4 days getting it.
I was 100% sure that I was not going to fish a bridge and was going to stick it out traditional Guntersville fishing the grass. Did I think I could win in the grass….. yes but everything would have to go right the right fish were there and they was eating pretty good but when the muddy water came it changed their attitudes and you had to make them bite on day one and on day two they was eating you just had to keep them hooked and that was a challenge.
Finished in 29th missed the cut by 1-10 ( one pound ten ounces ) out of 260 boats it wasn’t too bad but not good enough for me.. last years Toyota Series was really bad I had no idea how sick I was, I had no pain , no symptoms that I noticed. I was blacking out during the tournament, thought I needed to eat something but that really didn’t help and the day after the tournament I had a pain in my lower chest never went away for 10 hours thought it was heartburn but still had no clue it went away and I told myself if it came back I’d go to the doctor. Well that came pretty quick long story short… first hospital figured it out and it was my gallbladder and was taking it out first thing in the morning , that never happen went to a surgeon couple days later they did what they did got my images from the first place and had me come and do pre op asap and to be back the next morning at 3 am. They got it out but it wasn’t simple like others ( exploded when he touched it to take it out ) as I was told and when I came back for follow up he told me I had Gangrene and was extremely lucky things could’ve gone the other way at a snap of the fingers. So I’m very lucky to be here today! And debated on even sharing this publicly but it’s been almost a year so I figured it was a good time to do it. So 2023 was a really tough year from the beginning .
Back to the fishing stuff
Lake conditions still stained with temps being between 49-53 degrees just depends on where you’re at. The grass is growing nicely and the bass are really relating to it just like old time before all the eel grass showed up. It was fun way to catch them.
Here’s A Few Pictures And it wouldn’t be a day on the lake with Ethan Wheeler if he didn’t unhook my catfish and hold it for a pic 😂..
