Guntersville Has Produced Some Big Bass This Past Week! We started to see them getting grouped up , catching several off one area. But it is still a day to day deal it seems pretty much impossible to rely on one spot to produce day after day these fish are so beat up from all the fishing pressure they are moving after some have been caught or they just shut down and nip at lure when it gets close. So we just keep fishing new water as often that we can to keep putting our customers on great Guntersville Bass…

The Calm Before Storm

How about the weather this past week? Awesome Right!!!? Man has it changed the fishing… Did it warm up to quick? The fishing has slowed up, and the lake seems to be showing signs of spring time. Ive heard tree frogs daily, seen plenty of pelicans, and the geese are acting like crazy. Now the bass are acting funky.

Maybe this cold snap will shape things up.. Heres the lake update. water temps 55-60 depending on where your at,, water clarity is perfect for this time of year, still plenty of floating grass.

We have been fishing a lot of water for our bites, we have caught numbers one day then not so many on other days. Things are changing rapidly and for the folks that have your dates booked, I believe your gonna be in great shape, things are going to get really stupid here in a week and should continue till post spawn.

Guntersville is fishing good… Or is it?

Got out for a few days this past week and to learn some areas are still holding quality bass and some areas they’ve packed up and headed out. Some places they still ate the same baits and some they changed their diet.. Well what does all this mean? Im pretty sure its meaning with all the fresh water from recents rains and off colored water to complete muddy water to cold water..they are just going with the flow , their feeding periods are random.. if you time it just right its a lot of fun. So I caught them out of muddy water when I was checking for upcoming trip then very next day couldn’t get a bite in the muddy but the stained water was the ticket but it was not as easy as it was the day before,… Brady and John joined Belle and I for Bradys Birthday and they came to fish, and they fished hard heck Brady was fighting some sinus gunk but he never stopped ….The bite was not easy and after a couple of hours they got the feel for the technique and started catching…

Its About GO TIME

Here we are half way through January and cabin fever really starts to sit in, Lake Guntersville Bass Start To Swim In Our Daily Thoughts and our sleep gets interrupted with a sudden jerk as we rip the trap out of the grass in the middle of the night… Yup I admit it happens every year to me. So I had to cure my itch with a couple of days on the Big G.

Good friend Troy Morrow stopped by on his way home from a top 20 finish at Sam Rayburn to fish the morning, we managed to catch a few,, nothing like the TWO 9 pounders that he caught on days 1 & 3 , but it was good to spend some time in the boat with him, I always learn something from him.

Had a trip the following afternoon so I spent the 1st part of the morning waiting on my buddy to get to the ramp so I did a little fishing and well caught 3 real nice ones and 2 average ones before James was ready. We checked one area with no luck we went back to whats been working and went catching them pretty steadily not sitting on one spot ( had to save some for the trip ) even though we wanted to put them in the boat. One thing I did notice was the morning fish was a lot bigger then the afternoon ones.

Mr. Mullins started off right his 2nd cast he put one in the boat then he continued to catch them till the bite slowed up to where we had to change up , even after that we managed to put a few in the boat but all in all it was great 37 degree day on the Big G.

2018 Recap & Recent Trips

WOW where do I begin?

2018 Was a great year for fishing. We seen more double digit Bass then ever before.. We had many trips where there was more then 40 bass caught and the spring time trips seen many 3-4 pounders that was in them 40+ bass days. How about the 5-7 pounders there sure wasn’t a shortage for them either, heck in September and October we seen an abundance of 1-2 pounders and they was in really big schools, and that looks like we have a great looking future here at Lake Guntersville.. I think we are a year away from some really big days like we seen in 2013 and 2014.

GBG is considered LUCKY.

This year we had Capt. Shane on board and with his skills and knowledge he guided many clients to great days on the water, from a double digit bass to almost winning an hour in the big bass tournament. Its been a blessed year for sure. We are proud to say he will be with us again for 2019..

December Fishing…. Well its been good real good.. I Have not gone everyday but I’ve gone every week a least once.. We’ve had some rain and the river is up and getting dingy the water temps have climbed to 53 from last weeks 46 degrees. Lot of floating grass, logs, cat tails, and trash so you need to be careful you could lose a lower unit or something even worse.. So no need to be in a big hurry out there.. The grass is pretty much ripped up and swept down current so new growth can start in a few weeks.

Wilson & Leary Win Back2Back Jakked Baits Tournaments

Lake Guntersville November 12th 2018, Fall has arrived with some cold wind.. But the Bass Fishing has shown some great improvement in the last 5 days, with the numbers going down and the quality going up the fun has just begun.

Eric Wilson And I Won the Jakked Baits Tournament on Saturday with 18.36lbs with a 6.12lb Big Bass and the weather wasn’t the best, the 1st nasty cold front rolled in with high winds and a strong cold north wind that made the fish sluggish and when it should of made them strap the feed bags on and go to chewing.. It wasn’t easy to say the least, we had to fight floating grass and grass still growing and the wind, so when one of us would call for the net we kinda had to scream due to having a beanie and hoodie on over our heads we couldn’t hear much, the wind laid down around 1 o’clock and thats when we was able to make a couple of culls that helped in the win.. The New C-Map helped in finding another niched spot by being able to select the depth and the color to make the map pop and the spot scream right here right here then with Lowrance Structure Scan to confirm they was there and ready to eat was the deal..

BACK2BACK wins in this tournament and this was a special one for sure with the unique trophies this was a great one to win.. This tournament will grow more each year with all the work that Tom and his crew do it will be one of the more popular ones on the lake..

The water temp has gotten below 60 and we are catching some crappie while we are bass fishing and this can only lead to more and bigger bass showing up in the weeks to come.

GUNTERSVILLE IS ABOUT RIGHT

This pass week was probably one of the busiest weeks this lake has seen in awhile, Guntersville Bass had their helmets on ,

If your reading this and see the results from both tournaments and are thinking wow that place is sucking bad … well don’t let it keep you from coming here, the fishing is good but when you stack 500-600 boats on here the fish get split up and overly pressured. Yes the lake has fished better this year then the last two, but we are not fully recovered from the fish kill we had . Maybe the two towns could work together on scheduling these large tournaments and help the lake get back to what she use to be like. Now they might say they can’t control who has a tournament but they can control paying the tournaments to come at certain times. Well enough about things that will more then likely never happen ,

So the SPRO frog tournament wasn’t the best , Caulk it up to a bad year for the frog!

Well it’s shaping up to be a great time out here for us here at GBG. Our numbers are slowing from 50-70 fish to 20 but the SIZE is getting bigger.

Looks Like We Went WorldWide

Guntersville 8.6.18 🐸

Its starting to look like things are lining up.. Lake Guntersville is getting herself back together after a slow down a couple weeks ago.. Still a lot of moving going on as the bass are trying to figure out what they want.. But one thing is for sure the big ones are still there and mixed in with the elementary size bass.

Grass… Yes the grass is starting to develop in to mats in select areas and has given us some great action… And this heat is bad but it will make fishing the mats even better as it cooks the top layer and gets all cheesy ..

Eric and I went out for a couple of hours to try to figure out the big bite and it seems we got a start on it.. with them being within 10-15 yards from where I’ve been guiding just hunkered down a little more then we have been fishing…

We have had a fun week out here, looking forward to the transition into fall and see what is in store for us…

The Guntersville Curve

Well they call it dog days of summer for a reason, throw in a full moon and your window of opportunity is very short. and staying focus was key to putting fish in the boat. This past week proved to be one of the toughest weeks that I have seen this year. Early in the week small fish was all we could find. As the week went on the bigger bass started to bite just a little and using the same lures as we have been for the past couple weeks, the Worms and Creature Baits T-Mac & Baby Mad Paca produced the bites… By Friday the bites became very consistent and just like it ought to be. Seems Like The Bass Are In Transition. After they get settled the bite should improve and as we approach the end of summer in a few weeks the frog bite should be just right.
