The Big Girls Are Still Chewing On Lake Guntersville . What a week, Ran into another Donkey took 3rd in the ABA Ram Open On Guntersville….

Beginning of last week things seemed pretty slow until we caught a nice bass and had several bites throughout the day, by midweek things seemed to make some sense …. then come Thursday we had a front coming in and it just seemed like a perfect storm … took all the info that was learned this week and picked out an area and went there and wow is all I can say, we caught em pretty quick and then this big one ( pictured above ) ate and it was just like when the 10 pounder heavy and big head shakes ( yes I thought it might’ve been a catfish ) but lucky me it was a giant bass….

Felt pretty good for the ABA on Saturday ….

I want to thank my co angler Justin Parker …. He did a amazing net job on my big bass … what he did was … the story we all have heard every now and then. .. I was bringing the fish in to get netted and as I was bringing her to the net the hook pulled out and Justin dipped the neat and came up with the bass in the net… I can’t describe the excitement after hugging his neck and fist bumping it was back to work.. The bite had changed from during the week and then changed again from the morning to afternoon .. I can not remember the last time in a tournament when my decisions was the correct ones and everything just clicked… So Justin caught caught a really nice one a 4.68lb … that fish hit my bait and never got hooked I tried for it for several mins and moved and then I heard a hook set and he was bowed up .. That would’ve culled my 1.75 lb runt and I did have 2 nice ones pull off and we did see one of them as it boiled.. Im sure other guys lost some good fish that could’ve changed the outcome but I am thrilled with my finish.

The Lake Is Really Showing Some Incredible Improvement From The Last Two Years, if you catch a 3 pounder in the area then the others seem to be around the same size and the same with larger fish hanging around other big fish, the lipless bite is steadily picking up and keeping my fingers crossed on the weather , really want to see it steadily get warmer to let these fish start to move in from their winter areas to pre spawn areas to the spawning grounds.

10-08 LB LargeMouth Bass Lake Guntersville

I want to share with everyone this monster bass. Lake Guntersville has now given me 2 over 10 pounds.

The Fishing has been slow since the last ice off, shad kill is in full effect and the bass have had it pretty easy on getting a good meal. And the water temp has not climbed very much seems like what we gain during the day we lose at night. So to see a fish of this caliber in January is a great sign for more when the weather starts warming up.

I was using 4×4 Bass Jigs 1/2 Brandon McMillan Swim Jig With a NetBait Paca Punch.

The Rod and Reel are Duckett Fishing Black Ice Rod and 320 Reel

And Line is Sunline Sniper 16 pound test

even though it is a srwimjig I wasn’t swimming .. I didn’t have any Tharp Heads in the boat so I used the swimjig but I was just dragin it slow on the bottom. Kinda thought I had a drum or catfish just because it head shakes felt like it was rolling .. I guess the head shakes was just bigger then what I’ve been a custom too…

1st Outing 2018 Lake Guntersville & Shad Kill

Lake Guntersville was a fun place to be this week after the ice off, the largemouth was fired up and hungry and you didn’t have to guess if you had a bite or not you just about lost your rod if you didn’t have tight grip on it. Fished two and half days and caught some really nice bass.

One of the 1st things I noticed was that the shad have left the area where I had been seeing them the most and they was really no where to be found, this is good means its cold enough to kill some and group them up in deeper water… and thats just where I found them and I found plenty of hungry bass with them. And just because they are hungry didn’t mean they was feeding like crazy but they would eat in short periods you might catch 3-4 then have nothing for awhile, so after picking up on that I started looking for more pods of these fish so I can rotate them out and keep catching… and it worked like it should.. The next couple days they changed and left some of the areas and moved into grass and scattered and you really had to cover water to get your bites but once again you’d get a few and most of the time if one was a 5 the rest was just like her but if it was a 3 they was around the same size, thats a great sign in my eyes means the big fish are setting up shop and owning an area.

Water Temp : well its cold 1st day 37 2nd day 40 3rd day 45 degrees

Water Clarity : Very clear for most of the lake with some stained areas

Grass : Still Plenty of it, did notice where the ice was that grass is going away.

This Cold Snap : I hope to see more shad die off and grass dissipate to where we just have some clumps here and there.

Just keeping the fishing simple. 1/2 oz jigging spoon for the deep bass then the grass bass Boyd Duckett BDJ Jerkbait 115 In Bloody Tennessee Shad.

And for my guest K he brought his own baits and the fishing world isn’t ready for them just yet.

Its almost about time for the season to get cranked up and dates are filling up daily and my openings are getting slim.

Here we are, its 2018 and Lake Guntersville is still producing big bass. Mother Nature greeted Gville with a massive cold front on New Years Day, on Saturday we had our annual New Years Day Tournament and we seen a lot of nice 5 fish limits at weigh in time. The water temp was 49 degrees and the water was clear and after the 2nd day of the temps being below 32 I and going to take a guess and say they are 45ish. Picture this …. Crossing Browns Creek this morning looking towards the big river bridge there was steam coming off the lake … okay this is something we see in October mostly …. so it was 18 degrees this morning and the water has to be in the mid 40’s I’ve never seen that this time of year ever.. It was neat to say the least.. Back to the tournament 23 lbs was the winning weight with a 8 lb toad. Eric and I had 18 lbs wasn’t good enough to win by a long shot, the lake changed in 1 day well TVA stopped pulling water through the dam and the fish I had been on just didn’t want to do much, we could only catch 1 fish off a spot and we fished about every spot he and I ever fished that we caught a 5 pound of better fish so we was from 5 feet to 30 feet of water and caught fish some was good and some didn’t make the team.

This is a good sign in my eyes, what I mean is go back 3-4 years ago we didn’t have smaller fish hanging out with the bigger ones they kind of grouped up by size more .. and recently they’ve been commingling and here in the last week I really noticed they have split up and grouped up by size.. I believe we have rebounded from our senior bass passing away and we had some bad years of spawns which have left a void of larger fish and now It seems that our bass are thriving and mean as ever… Will we see more 30lb bags maybe will the mid 20’s be a great bag? I think so and I think if you don’t have 20lbs you might not get a check its looking like our bass are growing up and we need to do everything we can do to see that we keep having great spawns…

Guntersville is still full of green grass, I’m sure this cold will change that some. Last few trips we have targeted grass with Lipless Cranks, Jerk Baits, and Square Bills one of the keys have been getting the bait hung up in the grass and popping it out and on the pause is when the strikes have occurred. Color has not made that much of a difference up to this point with the cranks, now on the jerk baits Black and Chrome and Blue and Chrome have been the best .

I did go over to Pickwick on Christmas Day and fished with Taylor Luna, we did get cold but it was worth it..

Guntersville….. Keeps Getting Better

Lake Guntersville is still showing why she’s a beast when it comes to Lakes especially on the Tennessee River. Producing bass and big ones at that. I had to leave her as the big ones started to bite to go to Kentucky Lake for the BFL Wild Card and man did I miss the ol girl… Kentucky has bass and nice ones at that but that lake will fluctuate a lot and not to mention the asian carp have taken over that lake ( lets hope we never get them here) !! I started dialing in the big bites before I left and man was it a blast. Wish I could’ve stayed a few more days…

I noticed that they was getting on an old pattern from several years ago.

If it continues we will see some giant bass in the near future. The key will be the weather.

Hard to think that Black Friday is just around the corner. Ive had a few ask what will I be offering for it…. And I’ve put some thought into it and I’m pretty sure there will be some great deals for the one day… Check back on the website on Black Friday.

Lake Guntersville Fishing Is Strong

Lake Guntersville Bass Fishing has been pretty strong .. take out the high wind days and its been awesome.. but no joke the wind has been brutal and has messed up a lot of good fishing areas.. if it wasn’t for Power Poles then we wouldn’t of caught any fish, the wind would push you through the area so fast if you didn’t have your poles down, they are worth their weight in gold.

Froggin is just about over but I still have couple of mats that are jammed up with good bass. Been having a blast on topwater and still flipping Net Bait B Bug and swimming a 4×4 Jig.

The bass are on the move and the bait is everywhere. With these cold fronts we have been having in such a short period it has hit the fast forward button and they are trying to get to where they need to be.

I had a special guest a couple weeks ago.. Jason and Evan McMillion .. They won the fishing trip from Fin Feather & Fur in Ashland Ohio. It was a all expense paid trip .. Travel Lodging Food and Fishing.. Pretty sweet prize.. They stayed at the Wyndham Garden that sits right on the lake and enjoyed one of my favorite places to eat. So if your in Ohio and want to see a really awesome store then stop by the Ashland location…

And to top it off Evan caught his Personal Best LargeMouth and it was his 1st lake Guntersville Bass.. This kid is ruined now.. 5-12 lbs

Champions of Jakked Baits & SPRO FROG Tournaments

Lake Guntersville’s Frog Bite is happening and we was able to win two major tournaments, the Jakked Baits Open 19.23lbs and SPRO Frog Open 20.81lbs

And if your not in to throwing a frog then your in luck I have other patterns working like a Picasso SpinnerBait or topwater bait.. And we are looking at some cooler temps and that will only ramp up our fishing, we’ve been having days where we catch 40-50 fish some are small and some are big… but we are catching ..

Mike Davis and Thomas McCain won the SPRO FROG OPEN on October 7th 2017. Knowing Mike for several years we met November 1st 2012 we have a mutual friend ( Steve Hatfield ) I know y’all have read his name before in my reports .. Steve had gotten Mike in touch with me to fish out here and you’d think Mike and I would of know each other only living 30 mins apart back in Ohio but we didn’t …. Just want to add this … the 2nd day Mike and I fished together we found a mat that was the hottest mat I have ever fished to this day… here are some stats on the mat, 40 Bass 4lbs or bigger never moved the boat, it was a blast… so since then Mike has been back year after year and trips kept getting closer and closer , now he loves to catch fish but if he had only one choice how he could catch them for the rest of his life …. it would be a frog , so I am going to compare this win with the bassmaster classic.. The SPRO FROG OPEN is the BassMaster Classic To Mike Davis and I really can not be any happier for him.

Thomas McCain started fishing with me last year in September doing tournaments and just days when I didn’t have any trips, he’s very new to tournaments he and I have fished a good many in a short time and we have done alright just haven’t won any…. he’s a quick learner and has taken in ever bit of info he can find and put it into his own way fishing and its working for him.

Eric and I Won the 2nd Annual Jakked Baits Tournament on October 8th 2017. Our day was cut short due to Hurricane Nathan and the director moved the weigh in up to 12.. We both knew we had to have them early if we was going to have a chance.. And thats what happen limit by 7 culling by 8 and done by 9, I wasn’t to sure how we would do since Mike and Thomas fished my area the day before, I knew there was a lot of fish there but I just didn’t know if they’d like being messed with 2 days in a row.. well we only had 8 bites and still had a 2 lb at weigh in time and thats after losing a solid bass that would’ve matched the other 4 in the liveell , and kinda thought we had just lost the tournament when that one got off… luck was on our side we won by 4lbs …

IAN HOGGS Big Bass Tournament was on October 14th and it was a flash back to the BFL a couple of weeks ago, lost fish after lost fish, and lost by 2 lbs and you guessed it weighed in another 2 lb it is what it is , not sure what final results were we might of taken 3rd or 4th..

Best September I’ve Seen On Lake Guntersville 10.2.17

Lake Guntersville really showed out this September. I witnessed some of the best fishing this year so far. Plenty of fish and some really nice ones and plenty.. Seen many bass chasing the hooked one to the boat.

Well its been a very busy 3 weeks for me and I have a lot to share with everyone… even some Chickamauga stuff.

Since the last report I’ve been to Chic for the ABA Team Plus 100% Championship it was a 2 day event, Steve was a day late on getting to the Chic and he had a good excuse he almost won the BFL Buckeye Division Super Tournament on Lake Erie for the 2nd year in a row … he came up short by a couple of ounces but man to win one is hard and to put yourself in contention for a second one is just amazing… Congrats once again Steve Hatfield.. Well we put a weeks worth of work in and it just about paid off and what I mean is we had all the pieces of the puzzle and just didn’t put the last piece in place till early Sunday morning which was the 2nd day , but back up to day one we did what we planned on doing and caught 15lbs and 4th place with one hiccup we let a solid 3 pounder off at the boat that would of jumped us up a pound and a half and a 2nd place so after the weigh in all we did was throwing ideas back in forth till late that night and had a game plan for Sunday and we started where we finished on day one where we caught 3 good ones on top water …. and we did and never had a bite so we packed up and made a long run to an area that we both found but we found 2 different things going on there and this is the part of the puzzle that made it all make sense…. Steve had an absolute giant donkey completely jump over his topwater and never touched it 20 mins later I had a solid 4 do the same thing to mine … well heres the bad part the kind of stuff they was holding on wasn’t everywhere and we needed to learn this during practice so we would try to find some of the right stuff while fishing areas that we knew …. around 11 we decided we would go down swinging and not go catch a small limit but to continue trying to get 5 big girls and we did catch 3 for the day but two was tiny and one was a good one we finished in 16th place.. I can say I’m learning more and more and more things are making sense why I did good in the past in certain time and places and I know when its your time its your time till then you really can’t get to bent out of shape when you don’t win…

BFL Super Tournament :

Well mixed in some practice with guide trips last week and everything seemed to be lining up to be a great oppertunity to win one of these things … Monday was the only day I Practiced all day the others was after guide trips.. And when the 1st two spots pay off with a 5lb and 7lb it really makes it easy to venture out and try to find something off the wall and that I did.. But I couldn’t go out with 1 or 2 rods I had 12 rods on my deck and most of the time that means I’m struggling but this time it was for the simple reason I was running so much different kind of water I was catching them on different baits….. well day one greeted us with some strong north east winds that really made my areas hard to fish and losing 2 quality bass early then to top that I had a big big bass pull off at the boat I watched the hook just come out of its mouth in the clear water it was so heart breaking that fish alone would’ve helped seal the deal .. but I only brought 4 to the scales for 14lbs and one was a 2lb … had me in 14th well things was just a little bit harder then they should’ve been battery died at noon, got stung by a yellow jacket, late night tracking down another agm battery and come Sunday my navionics card wouldn’t load the map so I was with out a map and the wind blew more on Sunday then Saturday so when I tell you when its not your time this is why…. Lost them all Sunday morning they would get me down in the thick grass and get off and they was all big enough to have a 20+ lb sack … as I type this I’m still a little sick to my stomach thinking about it.. but this is why bass fishing is such a humbling sport… well I qualified for the BFL Wild Card on Kentucky Lake.. The down fall is I booked trips around the dates FLW announced a while ago and today in a email they changed the dates and I have trips booked the week of the tournament…. So I’m in a pickle….

With the mats getting right for frogging and the big bass are eating I can’t think of a better time to be fishing lake Guntersville , if you would like to come and see what the big g is all about get your dates booked because when it gets cold your going to wish you would’ve..Flippin and Frogging is what we are doing and a little wormin here and there.. Flipping a B Bug with a 1.5 oz Picasso Tungsten weight in 5-7 feet of water…

Lake Guntersville Fishing Report. 9-11-17

1st off Guntersville Bass Guides wants you to take a min for the ones who lost their life on this date and remember how quick things can change…..16 years ago do you remember where you were? And everyone that is affected by Irma.. Lake Guntersville has been pretty fun and challenging at the same time. We have had some winds that have made frogging not so easy but having Power Poles really helps keep us on the mat and some other bites have really picked up.

Our spinnerbait bite has picked up here in the last couple days with catching plenty of fish including big ones, and the Net Bait Big Worm bite is still hanging in there producing a few giants like always.

And the 4×4 SwimJig has started to put a few in the boat. ( if you’ve never used a 4×4 swim jig you need to at least go look at them GTO has them in stock ) Sticking with greens and whites for colors and keeping pretty light on weight of everything .

This past weekend has to be the best two days in September Ive ever had, we caught numbers and big bass, seeing 3-4 bass swimming in with the hooked one

and they all seemed to be 3-5 lbs and it just wasn’t on one spot it was every place we fished.. My young angler for the two days got to see stuff that we really haven’t seen here in a few years and well for me I’m all smiles its great when the bass get grouped up.. hopefully Irma don’t spoil our fishing.

My Powerhead went out on my boat and these two worked a long day to get me back on the water I’m telling you anyone with a boat that is within driving distance that needs repairs you need to come see them.. Lake Guntersville August 28th

Guntersville is fishing pretty good for August and I might add that its producing big fish daily.. We’ve caught good ones daily and some days we get several. The main thing I’ve notice is what TVA is doing with the water, I’ve been able to pattern what the bass are doing based on what the river is doing and sometimes its really easy and most times it takes minute but once we get it figured it out its kinda like fishing on a private lake …. and its pretty fun… now we have had a day or two where it was down right tuff no water movement no wind lol plenty of bugs though …

Some of my favorite fishing is happening right now as I’m writing this …. FROGGIN Like always not all areas are good you need to do some fishing to find the good stuff. And its been if they blow up and miss they will keep trying till they get it…

And the all mighty C Mac worm is still solid it has been a heck of a worm year and big ones have been eating it.. Been teaming it up with a 3/8oz Picasso Tungsten it comes through the grass so easy..

So I’ve been lucky to get to try out a new spinner bait by Picasso Inviz-Wire PRO it has a swing head and special cupped blades that give off lots of vibration something our bass haven’t felt.. Knock on wood with the swing head they have a hard time throwing the hook so its really a win win .. your wire does not get all bent up and they stay pegged … Guntersville Tackle and Outdoors should be getting there stock of these pretty soon so stop in and check them out.

We are getting some nice topwater bites as well and I see this getting better as the cool nights keep coming.

Eric and I have been fishing a tournament every weekend and coming up just short of a win but the fish we are catching its really reminding us of the good ol days … now its not like we have a honey hole its more like…. well wonder if they are over here so we go there and check and if they are not there its like well maybe its a dock day … what I am getting at is we are just going fishing and its working out for my upcoming trips we can cover some much different types of water in a day that it makes the trips easier to find them for the day..

Remember the Great American Eclipse ? Belle and I went fishing during it and I’m not sure if it helped or hurt the fishing but Belle sure was ready..

So this next part was something that I’ll never forget … I took a mother and son fishing.. we worked hard for the bites that we had , and I felt like it was one of the hardest days I’ve had on the lake .. if you do it enough you have a day when things break mess up or just malfunction. Then you turn the heat up and unplug the wind throw in a few gnats and you might have the picture painted … So the day is nearing the end and Merritt has not given up on the fish and thats pretty impressive and with that said he got a big bite on a C Mac worm and the bass took off to deeper water as he was trying to keep it from going that way the bass got wrapped around my Mercury lower unit and was kinda pinned to the Power Pole so I was not about to let this fish get away I empty my pockets just incase I go in …. so I’m pretty much half way in with my legs still on the boat and the fish decides to swim around and get untangled and heads back to the grass … after a few seconds of fighting we get the bass in the boat… and it was a 4-02 lb and when I say we all was relieved we really was… but thats not the cool part of this… a couple of days after our trip I get a package delivered and it was from Merritt , when he got home he built Belle and I a Lego Bass Boat and wrote a letter to us …. and It really still has me speechless on it… check it out below its really a neat boat…
