Open mind and short memory was my key to catching bass the last 3 weeks!
Just getting out there and not driving right to where you caught one maybe 5 the day before was hard but it was easier then pulling up and not getting a bite! These bass have been on the move for awhile now, some are still deep out on a ledge like in front of the yacht club or the lower end of alreds , a drop shot or shskey head will get you some bites but other then that the grass is slowly improving!
We have looked from 3 ft out to 12 ft in the grass for them and on day you’d have an exact depth and could really wear them out to the tune of 30 bass and a bad day would be 10 bass.
Now if this year has taught me anything it has been that I really like to have successful days and I had to use a lure that was non existent on my boat for at least 8 years, it’s not that I dislike this lure but I’ve just slowly stopped using it and it was the bait that I learned to bass fish with heck I won a championship on one in the 1st year of my fishing career. Well the old trusty spinnerbait has carried me and I’ve found a new one that I really like it is made by Picasso and its the 1/2 oz white chart double willow blade. The big worm produced on some days we used NetBait C Mac in Green Pumpkin. And a BD 2.5 SquareBill in Green Gizzard. Some days we could Flip and Frog so you can see that our deck would have a few Duckett Rods n Reels on it. Our line choice for the moving baits was Sunline Sniper 16 lb and for the worm is 12 lb Sniper and for Froggin n Flippin is Sunline FX2 Braid.
It’s been from Mud creek to Honeycomb that we’ve fished and from the front to the backs of the creeks . Here’s the results you better be close to deep water and have a hard bottom under the grass and focus on 6-8 feet of water.
Fished in the FLW BFL Super Tournament last weekend and made the cut for day two it was my 1st time doing this so of course it was a victory to me, finished 20th amongst the Big G Sticks and with September being my weakest time on the lake I feel that I can say I’m ready for next September already!

Well it slowed up this past week. The fish are still in the areas but to get them to bite is another mystery, just when it started making a little sense it shuts down, now we did have a lot of east winds and fronts that always seems to bother them.
Heres how the week went:
Fished 4×4 Swimjigs early then moved to the mats to frog and mix in a little flipping with a 1oz Picasso Tungsten with a Paca Craw. Our trips stretched us across the lake this week from Mud Creek down to Browns Creek and the fishing seemed to be the same, you really had to capitalized on the bites you did get.
I think when the weather stabilizes we will see better fishing .
The water temp is slowly coming down in the mornings it’s 84 and by 6 it’s 89 and these 90 degree plus days are getting old.
We are filling up for what I believe is the best fishing of the whole year. I love the cooler days and big bass, if your thinking about coming to Guntersville then give us a call and let us do the work and you can enjoy your day on the lake.

As this week came to a end I’m scratching my head!
If you got out this past week you probably had a pretty good time on the water. Catching a fish was not much of a challenge, the fish have been where they are suppose to be and we could fish spots with great success, using 4×4’s swim jig with a Netbaits Little Spanky as a trailer early in the morning to catch them.
Rod: Duckett Micro Magic 7’3 med heavy
Reel: Duckett 360 7:1:1 Line: Sunline Sniper 16lb
Mid Day: Flipping a Heavy Hitter 4×4 Jig on grass edges got your rod doubled over but the bites are spaced out but well worth the effort. Broke out the Picasso Shad Walker again this week working it along thick grass edges and tricking a few bass.
Flipping Rod:Duckett White Ice 7’9 extra heavy.
Flipping Reel: Duckett 360 6:3:1. Line : Sunline FX2 90lb
Now the scratching of the head comes to play. All week things was lining up to be on track for some late summer early fall fishing, Well come Saturday things changed in a bad way, the bass would clobber the swim jig like take the rod out of your hands and not get hooked and the same with flipping the big jig , why? That’s a great question, I am gonna blame it on the North & East wind heck I don’t know they acted the same on Sunday even going to NetBait Super Twitch they wouldn’t eat it we hooked them on the outside of the head. And with this storm brewing out in the Gulf is going to change it up. Time will tell!

The big girls are starting to show their faces again!
We had a great week exploring new areas of the lake and finding a few bass here and there
.
We have been mixing it up between a 4×4 Swim Jig with a Little Spanky and flipping a NetBait Paca Craw with a 1oz Picasso Tungsten Weight. 6-10 feet of water and when the right cover is around we’d throw a hollow body frog with some success.

The Big G and the Dog days of summer!
We have been fishing everyday, and have been as far up as Mud creek and as far down as the dam itself. And the fishing is the same all over the lake . Good news our bass had a great spawn this year, I’ve personally have witness numours times a pack of 4-6 inch largemouth bass fallowing our lures back to the boat one time we counted 12 chasing the lure in.. This is a 1st for me to see this here on Guntersville . Wanted to share that with everyone.
One thing I discovered this week is a frog bite and it’s not all over but it’s starting and it tends to make it difficult for me to sleep at night but we’ve had fun week mixing in the frog on the right places.
Catching numbers isn’t as easy as it was a month ago but it’s doable and to get the big girls you really need to work at it and know what they are holding on. We have found a handful of areas that have some studs living there.
We caught fishing pretty much every area we have checked and some are nice ones and some are just babies but one thing is for sure is if your around one it’s gonna eat your lure or attempt to.
Our go to is a 4X4 Bass Jig SwimJig with a NetBait Little Spanky as the trailer.
Then when it’s grind time we are peggin a Picasso 1oz Tungsten and a NetBait Paca Craw and flipping grass.
Finally A Picasso Shad Walker for around the grass and on the mats.
Lake Update:
Grass is starting to top out all over the lake some areas more then others.
Water temp is anywhere from 88 to 92 degrees and water clarity is mixed some areas are clear and others are dingy.
Flosting grass is still a pain to get a clean retrieve 100% of the time.

Lake Guntersville is still producing big bass and good times. We have had a few awesome days here recently and it really reminded us what it was like out here 5-6 years ago so the Big G still has em!
We still are bouncing back and fourth between offshore and shallow grass and the best baits have been a 4×4 Mag Football Shaky with a Super T Mac out deep and a Texas Rigged T Mac in the grass.
Water temp is around 87 and fairly clear
Grass is looking good might be a great year for some frog fishing
July is shaping up to be a fun month. Its about time to do some flipping so if you have never done this before then come fish with us and learn how to flip.

Its been a heck of a June here on the Big G, with the hot days and plenty of bass! Is this one of the best Junes in the past 5 or 6 years ?? Some might say yes some may say no but one thing is for sure the bass have kept us on our toes… What I mean by that is they have been changing up almost on a daily basis with one day catching them in 20+ feet of water to 6 feet of water I cant explain why that is but one thing is for sure is they are always biting somewhere so if your fishing where you caught them last weekend without a bite you might want to do a 180 and go do something else and keep an open mind. Something else to keep in mind is the timing we have noticed the last two weeks timing has been a key but it can get your hopes up as well so dont put all your eggs in to one basket (or spot). So what I am talking about is if Spot A produced for you yesterday at daybreak and spot B produced at noon yesterday and when you go back to spot A with out a bite then hurry over to spot B and give it a try or spot C … you get what I am say if they are in the mood to eat then its going to happen pretty fast so dont get caught up with they was chewing here yesterday syndrome…

In the deeper water we have been looking in the 18-24 ft range around creek mouths
and up shallow just fishing areas that have deeper water close by.

I don’t have a lot of pics to share with you guys since I had to stay off the water last week Mon-Thur so with one day to practice we did not catch a lot of fish due to the way the lake is acting with the fishing pressure so I’d figure I would share with you some short stories from Saturday March 26th.
We focused on grass in 6-8 feet of water and on the 1st cast in the morning went like this:
made the cast stepped on the trolling motor and it did’nt work and I noticed that the speed knob was on zero after adjusting it I picked up my rod and it was heavy so I did what anyone would do I Set The Hook and the bass came up and tried to jump and just wallered and she went 7.20 lbs. After a couple of hours we had small limit and had to make a decision, a 15 min boat ride and we was fishing again without any luck.. so from 9 till 12:30 we have not had a sniff we just kept moving and fishing until Steve got a bite and this fish did the same as mine did just to fat to jump and it was a 8.15 lbs and that culled a 3 lb bass now the pressure started. we had to leave to head back to the ramp around 3. We knew we needed a 5+ pounder to have a chance at doing really well in this tournament, it was not till around 2:45 that Steve hooked up with one right at the boat and it was well over 5 lbs after a few high fives we knew if we could get one more big one we would look pretty good so it was a hard last 10 mins of fishing with out another bite. So as we are heading in we figured we had 27-28 lbs.
The moment when it got real:
While bagging up our fish we realized there was not enough room in the bag with enough water and the bass , a buddy on the dock suggested we use 2 bags as he went to get us another one, so yes we copied Rick Clunn and used two bags to carry our bass to the scales, When we dumped the fish in to the bump tank they grew a little more from the last time I seen them 5 mins ago well the time came to set them on the scales to see what the Big G Blessed us with…………… 31.15 lbs wow talk about a true surprise.
We was in the next to last flight so we still had to wait it out for awhile and when it was over I could take a deep breath.
This was the 1st time winning a new boat for me and Steve and its pretty cool little boat but its for sale so you can contact me if your interested in buying it…
