Blessed Is The Word That Comes To Mind. Blessed to be able to fish Lake Guntersville Daily and to have caught my 3rd Double Digit Bass form Guntersville. And to catch this one with long time clients/friends Johnny & Boyd it couldn’t of been any better … well yes it could’ve if we all caught a 10 pounder but we didn’t and there will be a next time! So the big girl wasn’t the only highlight of the day, and in fact today was the best day of fishing I have seen this year! We wrecked them had a lot of 2-3 pounders and we had 4 really nice ones to complement the big girl. We might’ve discovered a new way to catch em today, it didn’t seem to matter where we stopped to fish, we just caught em. Today will be another day that will stick out just a little more than others in the memory bank.

If you remember the last time these two showed up they caught em good if you don’t remember then click here and see how they did. We didn’t hit the 70 fish mark but we was close, 52 today.

History! On This Day 2 Years Ago Adam Bozarth Caught Him A Dandy 9.88lbs thats like a drop or two of water of being a 10 pounder…. Pic Below.

Lake Guntersville Pre Spawn Time

Largemouth Bass are moving into staging areas daily and super shallow… And Mother Nature is doing her thing … up and down temps and plenty of rain.. If you look back one year you’ll remember a warming trend that had many of us wearing shorts and hoodies.. But this year we are bundled up for most of the week.

Now with the rain predicted for the next 4-6 days it will shake things up , these fish have had current since October and its kept them in general areas and fairly active. If the water gets muddy then it’ll take them a few days to adjust to the conditions ( remember we are dealing with Florida Strain ) and it’ll take us a little bit to find the right lure they’ll want to eat.

What we’d like to see after all this rain is some warmer temps and stable water levels .. This will help a consistent bite and bigger bass getting more aggressive and will chase down moving baits.

2018 Recap & Recent Trips

WOW where do I begin?

2018 Was a great year for fishing. We seen more double digit Bass then ever before.. We had many trips where there was more then 40 bass caught and the spring time trips seen many 3-4 pounders that was in them 40+ bass days. How about the 5-7 pounders there sure wasn’t a shortage for them either, heck in September and October we seen an abundance of 1-2 pounders and they was in really big schools, and that looks like we have a great looking future here at Lake Guntersville.. I think we are a year away from some really big days like we seen in 2013 and 2014.

GBG is considered LUCKY.

This year we had Capt. Shane on board and with his skills and knowledge he guided many clients to great days on the water, from a double digit bass to almost winning an hour in the big bass tournament. Its been a blessed year for sure. We are proud to say he will be with us again for 2019..

December Fishing…. Well its been good real good.. I Have not gone everyday but I’ve gone every week a least once.. We’ve had some rain and the river is up and getting dingy the water temps have climbed to 53 from last weeks 46 degrees. Lot of floating grass, logs, cat tails, and trash so you need to be careful you could lose a lower unit or something even worse.. So no need to be in a big hurry out there.. The grass is pretty much ripped up and swept down current so new growth can start in a few weeks.

Eric Wilson & Jim Leary Win With A Big Limit In 6th Annual Black Friday Tournament Out Of Waterfront Bay on Lake Guntersville.

We caught em all day, it was all in the retrieve of the rig. ( yup we threw it ) The big one did give us a slight panic attack when she ate at the boat with very little line out, after that it was chunk in winding, we did a lot of moving around hunting big fish and they wasn’t everywhere, and they changed a lot during the day.. With the new C-Map we was able to keep up with em, matched with my Lowrance Carbon we could call our shots….We had a blast..

Mike Harvey was in town to try to top his personal best that he caught in the spring CLICK HERE to check it out. We had one day that the fishing was just hard, then the other two days was jammed up. We checked the area where he caught that monster and with no luck at all they just wasn’t there, but in typical Mike fashion he catches the 1st bass each day and had several on me each day, now the last day we fished together I figured out a little something and we caught a lot of fish it was pretty dumb..

Glen had a pretty good day we had a short 4 hour trip and he learn that the rig bite is fun..

Wilson & Leary Win Back2Back Jakked Baits Tournaments

Lake Guntersville November 12th 2018, Fall has arrived with some cold wind.. But the Bass Fishing has shown some great improvement in the last 5 days, with the numbers going down and the quality going up the fun has just begun.

Eric Wilson And I Won the Jakked Baits Tournament on Saturday with 18.36lbs with a 6.12lb Big Bass and the weather wasn’t the best, the 1st nasty cold front rolled in with high winds and a strong cold north wind that made the fish sluggish and when it should of made them strap the feed bags on and go to chewing.. It wasn’t easy to say the least, we had to fight floating grass and grass still growing and the wind, so when one of us would call for the net we kinda had to scream due to having a beanie and hoodie on over our heads we couldn’t hear much, the wind laid down around 1 o’clock and thats when we was able to make a couple of culls that helped in the win.. The New C-Map helped in finding another niched spot by being able to select the depth and the color to make the map pop and the spot scream right here right here then with Lowrance Structure Scan to confirm they was there and ready to eat was the deal..

BACK2BACK wins in this tournament and this was a special one for sure with the unique trophies this was a great one to win.. This tournament will grow more each year with all the work that Tom and his crew do it will be one of the more popular ones on the lake..

The water temp has gotten below 60 and we are catching some crappie while we are bass fishing and this can only lead to more and bigger bass showing up in the weeks to come.

This pass week was probably one of the busiest weeks this lake has seen in awhile, Guntersville Bass had their helmets on ,

If your reading this and see the results from both tournaments and are thinking wow that place is sucking bad … well don’t let it keep you from coming here, the fishing is good but when you stack 500-600 boats on here the fish get split up and overly pressured. Yes the lake has fished better this year then the last two, but we are not fully recovered from the fish kill we had . Maybe the two towns could work together on scheduling these large tournaments and help the lake get back to what she use to be like. Now they might say they can’t control who has a tournament but they can control paying the tournaments to come at certain times. Well enough about things that will more then likely never happen ,

So the SPRO frog tournament wasn’t the best , Caulk it up to a bad year for the frog!

Well it’s shaping up to be a great time out here for us here at GBG. Our numbers are slowing from 50-70 fish to 20 but the SIZE is getting bigger.

Lake Guntersville Fun Fall Fishing

October is coming to an end and the big girls are still a little funky..But Guntersville has a bright future we have had a week of incredible numbers. And on the last trip we noticed some are growing up. It will be a matter of days and this place will be WIDE OPEN Prolly just in time for the Costa Championship. Im sure the bridges will be where its won.. Its Guntersville and they can throw the A-Rig.

So ,…. we’ve been pretty busy catching fish like stated above just not the BIG ones “yet”.. avg 30 with as many as 79 in a day, a few time we wouldn’t move the boat for at least and hour…its not something I normally be proud of but sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches.. heck it makes a fun day ( trying not to get a hook in ya) them little fellas are full of energy..

Will the SPRO be any good? With the lack of mats out there this year its gonna be tough for the Froggers.. From what I can tell it’ll take a little bit of luck to win it this year..

He’s been doing some awesome work the past two weeks ( always does) Big Bass

He Guided Roger Ridenhour for the Big Bass Tournament and he took 2nd in one of the hours

Then He Guided Eric to a fish of a lifetime.. The Lake he lives by just don’t have much to brag about.. Capt. Shane has worked his tail off to put our clients on good bass.. He has more patience then I do… Hats off..

TopWater Fishing Lake Guntersville 10-5-18 Updated 10-7-18

Heres an update for Lake Guntersville :

Water temp was 77 degrees in the mornings and the Most recent is 82 at the beginning of the day,

TVA keeps fluctuating the water .. And that is hurting the frog bite. A lot of it is from the rain we just had but dang.

So what does all this mean? The bass are confused maybe.. heck you can’t catch them in the same area back to back days.. But when your run into them you make sure you knock their lights..

Had a day of days this past Monday. It was a blast..

Now these pics are from a couple of weeks , with the fishing about to pick up we will be posting weekly again.

**** UPDATE****

Seen an increase on action on Saturday. A lot of Bites just the big girls just are not comfy yet with all the ups and downs… I feel by the end of the week this place will be crazy.. First real cold front coming, TVA taking the bottom out of the lake, Grass topping out all over, Hurricane coming in from the Gulf… Should make for some awesome fishing…

Guntersville And Chickamauga Bass Fishing

September on Lake Guntersville… Is already fishing better then August, for as long as I have fished here September has always been the struggle month and this year its showing signs of being unbelievably one of the best months.. Why ??? No Clue … But we will take it..

The Bite Picked Up the Thursday before Labor Day and it stayed strong the next week, between trips and practice for the BFL it was call your shot, things was looking like 25-30lb sack wouldn’t be out of the question for the 1st day of the Super Tournament. No clue what changed in less then 12 hours, it sucked the big fish vanished in most of the areas , there was one area they was still in and feeding but pretty much impossible to catch… It was really one of them days where if it could go wrong it did and well it did .. Have you ever had braid go in between your thumb nail and skin and go in 1/4 inch? that was just one of the things, well I managed to catch two 15inch bass and I knew I just needed to weigh one to make the regional, but at the end of the day I really didn’t feel like going through weigh in .. I was truly miserable and disgusted with my lack of ability to relocate them or make them bite when it counted. Theres still a chance I could get a call to go I’m 59th in points 45 gets a invite 5 are doubled qualified so 8 guys would have to turn it down, then again I could go to the wild card and see..

So Sunday the 2nd, went to Chickamauga with Davey and Preston from Virgina, It was one of them days. We caught em good.. And it was a little windy at times.

I was lucky enough to land 3 Big Bass and 1 Decent one, and the one I lost on the cast before the pic with me holding up 3 fingers was an absolute monster of a bass, she thought she was a tarpon. Got her within 5 feet of the boat and she jumped one last time and slung the bait… but the next cast I caught another big un..

Preston caught the 1st one of the day and a few more and Davey does what Davey does . He gets in on the action catching him a good one.. It wasn’t an easy bite but once they got the feel for it they started getting them.. You might not be able to tell but they had been up for like 36 hours at one point in the day, and thats from not knowing where they wanted to fish… Left Virgina and headed south Saturday morning stopped at Chic and night fished then drove to Guntersville and got to my house at 4 a.m. then we loaded up and drove back to Chic and fished till dark.. They was Team No Sleep..

We Had A Blast.

So came back to Guntersville and to the fish that I had found on Thursday ….. yea they moved.. but we relocated some and managed to get some, but once again it wasn’t a easy bite …

As you can see they got right already this week.. Didn’t get a chance to take any pics Monday it just rained all day, I fished with Joe from Kentucky Lake and we caught plenty of fish and lost plenty too..

Sorry you had to look at the selfies but when your alone or just trying to be sneaky with out showing all the other people out there you have one you do what you gotta do.

Plenty Of Fish On Lake Guntersville

The weather has been steadily getting hotter and the water temp on Lake Guntersville has been anywhere from 86-91 degrees…. And it hasn’t slowed the bite down but it has made the real big ones bite less often at certain times… one day it might be at day break then the next day it could be 11 o’clock ..

Saturdays have shown to be a little on the stingy side for the big ones , seems like they just know sometimes . Its frustrating when you know whats in the area and you offer them the tackle box and all you can get are average to small bass…then come back a day later and light them up .. I guess thats why its called fishing and not catching…

But My buddy Mike from Ohio was spending a lot of time just looking and fishing stuff that just does not seem to be good to me but he caught plenty of them.. and some nice ones … I gave him some baits that have been working since I wasn’t able to get out on the water with him like we usually do .. due to being booked up , we did manage to get out a couple days and caught us a few like old times… Hurry back Mike the frog bite is just around the corner…

Its been a great July and as August gets here a transition will begin, as the heat will cook ya the bass will start to set up on key areas and the grass will top out and things will start to look a lot like Frog Time…
