Lake Guntersville fishing has remained good even with all the COLD FRONTS in April ..

Marched ended with a bang. Eric and I Took 4th In the Freedom Marine Tournament.. had 21.09lbs

Just to think last year we was all wearing shorts and catching some bass and this year we are bundled up and wrecking them..

Madness Of March Largest Bass To Date

This pass week was a short lived one. Nasty weather postponed Mondays trip, Tuesday and Wednesday was some of the best fishing I’ve seen ever and the rest of the week well lets just say I was not on Guntersville.

Fishing is the best I’ve seen on Guntersville! Mike Harvey joined me on Tuesday and Wednesday and we put them in the boat and they was big.

Tuesday we had over 50 bass ranging from 3lbs to 7lbs and its just not one little sweet spot it was game on wherever we stopped to fish..

Wednesday was a special day …. the wind was blowing insanely and the night before we talked and I felt that the big one was going to eat, and I felt it was going to be an early thing.. Well on the way to the ramp I was starting to regret my choice to go early, it was 30 degrees and 20+ mph wind. We left the dock and was getting wet from the wind blowing the splash off the side of the boat ( Mike had no idea how close I was to turning around and going to get breakfast and coming back later ) We went up in to a creek to where I knew it would be somewhat protected and that some big bass have been. Well in the 1st 30 mins Mike catches a 4 and a 6 and half we move down some with some luck nothing big so I fired the big motor up and motored us back up to where he caught the two bigger ones and with in mins he catches a 2lb bass then on the next cast on the same spot he hooks one that is doing whatever she wants and he is just along for the ride, few moments later that felt like hours she had him in the power poles (Power Pole Thank Your For Existing Without Them We Wouldn’t Of Been Able To Catch Fish Like We Have Especially This Month) and we still have not seen her, he worked her free from the poles then we get a boil and we now knew it was a bass and not a big trash fish, couple of seconds later we land her. I looked the fish then Mike and told him I believe sir you just got your double digit…..We weighed her and sure enough she was a double digit…. Ok now what I’m about to share with you next is the impressive part.. This bass measured 24 1/2 inches long and 19 inches in girth. this fish was almost as big around as she was long.. crazy… She weighed 11-0 lbs this is the largest bass I have ever guided anyone to or even caught myself… And what really made it all that more special / rewarding… is that when Mike 1st hired me he told me ” I don’t really care about catching a lot of fish I want to catch big ones and I’d love to catch me a double digit” it took some time to get it done , now he has had his chance each year and they’ve somehow seemed to give him the slip, one in particular was two falls ago , she was big and like to waller on top, the first time she came up you couldn’t see the bait then by the 4th time she came up you could see just one hook in her and then she was gone..

Lake Guntersville Fishing Update 3/18/18

Lake Guntersville is almost back to normal. Time will tell if this awesome fishing is because of the high current or its just nature related like the shad kill and the grass getting knocked back to where we can fish for these bass…

This past week has been just awesome. Catching big bass and lots of them. Its been FUN!!!

Water temps are now climbing back up Seen 58 today

And the water color is clear.

And the wonderful Floating grass is starting to make things difficult.

We’ve had to change up some from day to day to keep the bites coming through out the day. A few days we didn’t move the boat in 2 hours and caught over 30 bass and the other days we could pull up and catch 5 or 6 and go on to the next spot and repeat. Moving baits have been best and some slow worked on the bottom have came in handy more then a few times.

Eric and I fished Goosepond WildCat and took 3rd all I did was run the net and hold the boat on the spots and he did the catching….

Davey visited from Virgina and we got out a few days.

Daniel and his Son Joined us for 2 days of catching. On their 2nd day Daniel’s son caught his personal best, another PB for Capt. Shane

The Woods caught some on one of the coldest mornings in a awhile.

This little bass is showing why we have big ones here.. Eating Big Meals.. He just popped up to the surface in front of us so we recovered him and discovered this bream lodged in his mouth, after removal they both swam away..This is my 3rd 3lb Crappie on Guntersville.

Dale From Texas (AKA BIG TEXAS) had a trip of a lifetime, We had done something that I hadn’t done in a few years… and that was catch a mid 30 lb sack.. we did it pretty fast then we had a 25 lb sack and not sure how many 17 lb sacks we caught in that 4 hours but it happen.

Power Poles made these trips happen.. if you remember we had a lot of wind this past week and if I didn’t have them we wouldn’t of been able to sit there and catch them like we did… Thank You Power Pole.

Guntersville vs Mother Nature Round 2

Lake Guntersville had another round of rain, high water, low water, and multiple cold fronts and surprisingly the bass still bit.. It might not of been as easy as fishing in a barrel but once we learned what they preferred we went back to catching them. Oh and we seen yet another 10 pound Bass!

Id say the Big G won…

Water Temp is holding around 55 degrees

Visibility : Clearing up pretty much from one end to the other.. At Least A Foot We Can See.

Still managing 20+ bass a day so we have dropped back on numbers a little.

They are still moving so we could see one of the best springs ever.. Ive already experienced some of the best bass fishing ever in my life in the last 4 weeks.

These boys came down from Michigan and caught them.. 40+ bass ..

Went from catching the fire out of them to a extremely slow down and had to adjust with the fishing pressure still managed to catch them just not as many as we became a custom too.

Capt. Shane delivered a new personal best to Chris Meyers.. 10lb wow Congrats to Both the Capt. and Client..

Yup… he caught a little of everything.. and he let his dad hold a couple for the photo app..

The Nash’s always bring the cold fronts with them but still manage to put the bass in the boat.. It sure was not easy with the high gusts and chilly wind chills.. They’ll be back.. since one of them lost one that they couldn’t handle… she started swimming towards the deep water and never checked up and he couldn’t turn or slow her down… not pointing any fingers at him for getting his butt kicked…. the one on the left

She gets so excited over bass.. its like a kid on Christmas morning everyday for her.. You’ll never have to make her go … she usually is at the truck waiting on me every morning.. she wakes up ready to go…

The Big Bass Are Biting On Lake Guntersville

Lake Guntersville is really living up to her reputation, of being One Of The Number One Bass Fisheries In The World.

The numbers of bass we are catching daily is really amazing for the spring time ( February ) on a avg day 8 hours 50-70 bass and a 4 hour is 20-30 bass and then if the wind gets blowing hard your going to have a hard time fishing and we did experience that early last week. Tony will be back after his granddaughter is born here in a few days and he will get to enjoy the Madness Of March as I like to call it.

The weather cooperated the rest of the week and we dropped the hammer on them. I was joined by longtime GBG customer Adam for two of the days. We started out with him losing a really nice bass it wasn’t totally his fault it did get acrobatic after the hook set.. then the rest was a blur as we dialed in how they wanted it and the 8 hour trip tuned into daylight til dark..

Day two with Adam …

A lot of the same but we was able to really catch them. Found a staging area and it was plum full of fish and big ones, we was able to sit there for 4 hours and steadily catch them while trying other lures.

Little background on Adam..

1st time he came fishing with me he was using spinning tackle and he still was able catch big ones then I told him if he was to come back frogging he would have to learn how to use a bait caster .. well he learned and two years later he has mastered the bait caster and now the lipless bait. oh yea he likes to go fast he drag races as his other hobby…

And Mike Davis… him and his friend Richie was at Lake Okeechobee and it wasn’t the best fishing and after a week of us just cracking them here on Gville I was able to convince him he needed to be here… so they came for the last 4 days of their vacation. I spent a couple of hours with them when they got here to get them dialed in… He even tried to catch us dinner..

Adam came along for the last time before he started the Police Academy as we looked for more fish for the upcoming BFL and Rat L Trap Open tournaments

And this happen … Another Lake Guntersville Giant. This is really the 4th one between Adam and I in less of a month. My 10-08 & 9-02 and Adam’s 9-15 click the weight to see the pic..Its been a very impressive 2018 .. I mean look I’ve been wearing shorts and working on the tan….

Fished the FLW BFL Saturday and took 16th with 18-14lbs not what I was expecting but ill take it..

Then Eric and I fished the Bill Lewis Rat L Trap Open and just about pulled it off… We took a different approach to the day. Never got in a hurry we actually never went over 40 mph all day and when we locked down on the spot where I caught a couple in the BFL we started grinding with a bite every 45 mins to an hour but they was decent fish had one 3 pounder we needed to get rid of and before that we had a 2 pounder that was culled out when Eric caught a 4 plus with 20 mins to go.. We ended up with 24.62lb with a 7.91 big bass that was only good enough for 3rd big bass but hey we will take it.

And now the Madness Of March is upon us and the things that happen in this special time here on Guntersville are beyond magical. Nows the time to book we are booking up and this is not a sales pitch.

Water Temps have been as high as 70 and low as 55 and there is still a slight stain to the water with some more color on its way after the rain that we have had and suppose to get more tomorrow night

Lot of new grass growing all over the lake this is a great thing its been a few years since we’ve had clean bottom with short grass sprouting..

Our best bait has been a Lipless and a solid 2nd is a Square Bill

Lake Guntersville Best February To Date 2/18/18

WOW is all I can say… Lake Guntersville is awesome.. If you like catching fish then its a great time to be on Gville . We’ve had days with 70 bass and big ones too. Im not going to go into many details for one I’m exhausted and two my hands are tore up no joke. I do want to give big thank you to Mike Gerry.. He told me about a a spot that had some good fish on. We caught a good number of fish off it and had a blast!! Thanks Mike

We are covering water and getting bites in almost every place we stop.. now the fish are still not everywhere we just know where they are holding … its almost like calling your shots.

Now these are not two different days … same day Friday 2/16/18 Johnny and Boyd From Knoxville and it was warmer in the morning then it was in the afternoon..

Lake Guntersville FEB 5th Bass Fishing

Guntersville is getting a makeover this week. Mother Nature has dumped a lot of rain on Lake Guntersville and with the rain we have current with a average outflow of 123,000 cubic feet per second and raising water 595.5 is the top of the dam and at noon today 2-12-18 the level is 595.18… Mud, yup we have some muddy water and floating logs big ones too.

So what does this mean? We should see some clean bottom and fish grouped up in areas and should make for a great pre-spawn bite leading into spawning time.

So what was it like before all the rain? Well it was pretty awesome. We was finding bass grouped up to where it was every cast and it was pattern I ran from one end of the lake to the other and it offered numbers with big ones ( the big ones was close to the smaller ones in a nitch spot ) If you like to fish a Lipless CrankBait then this is right up your ally.

You might recognize the guy with me… My old buddy Josh Bertus.. Had a Blast Fishing with him!

The one thing that keeps coming to mind is… Its only going to be better then it was last week…. The bass are healthy and strong.

A 1/2 oz Lipless was really hard to beat and to the point of calling your shots color didn’t matter if you had the right retrieve to where the bass had no choice to but eat it..

Now that the mud has moved in and … it changed things .. With Florida strain Largemouth’s it takes them a few days to get use to the mud .. and my main area for this upcoming Ram 100% Team tournament was fine Saturday but Sunday it was rolling mud and we had bites but they just wasn’t holding on the best and would pull off and we stayed with hopes that they’d turn on .. well they didn’t so with 15 mins to go we left and driving along I noticed clean water so I just stopped and started fishing … Caught a good one and 6 others that was decent… yea I was pretty sick and mad at myself for staying married to an area so with no time to make the weigh in we kept fishing and catching just stopping at clean water .. it was kinda stupid but it is what it is..

Its been a long time since I’ve seen February fishing this good… And if history repeats itself March will be nuts..
