Plenty Of Big UNS

Its been like a Saturday every day this week. Guntersville has been getting pounded, ramps are jammed packed and the bass have changed everyday and not for the better. Kinda reminds one of a Mike Tyson Boxing match. On the bright side we have been able to stay with the every changing bite,

Heat has been climbing daily with very little wind this week and the floating grass is getting in the way, 75 water temp and the lake is clearing up.

Current has been rolling from the recent rains and thats moved the offshore schools we have been fishing. And its helped the creek bite a lot!

Guntersville Is bOOming

Lake Guntersville is shaping up nicely in the last week. We have been busy with young anglers catching their personal best to a group from Finland fishing two days with us and dodge storms its been fun.

Water temps are holding in the mid 70s and most of the lake is clear but there is still plenty that has color to it. Oh and the floating grass is still a pain so what can ya do!

We are finding a great offshore bite on most days and the other days are just going fishing either way its been producing. The Big G is looking to have a bright future and great present with the fishing being as good as its been all year along with the bass recovering from the spawn like champs one can only think of the fun we will be having. Heads Up with the recent rains the TVA predicts the water flow to pick up and the lake level so theres a good chance for some floating debris .

The Big Ones Are On Their Way

Big Bass are showing up in the right places here on Lake Guntersville. We still are a 7-10 days away from a great ledge bite and yes there are some getting “out” already.

Last week was a busy week for me it started with a great trip with a father and daughter that can flat out fish! We started with some smaller fish and kept improving in size as the day went on, it was the day that the fish decided to get with the program. As for the rest of the week , well I got to see one of my best friends as he was in town for the ABA Team Tournament. We practiced the rest of the week and found that the bass was still spawning pretty good and some was out and some was in transition. So checking areas where “they should be” was kinda bitter sweet, and what I mean is as you pull up all you can do is try not to get to excited from the history of the area because things have been really different this year and so you can guess a lot of the areas with great history wasn’t very good , but we did manage to find some new ones and marked a few really nice schools and I had to make a few cast on some .. well just because its been a minute since I could .. As for Saturday in the ABA Open it was hard to stay away from the good stuff so I did damage control on myself .. went to a creek and made myself stay there the entire time ( just needed to fish 3 to qualify for the 2 day)

Sunday was the Team Tournament and of course we had some rain overnight and cooler temps and you would’ve thought that would slow the bass down… nope… the change in the wind direction did, the lovely floating eel grass was getting blown back across the lake from all the south winds we was having and the north wind was sending back.. That took out some key spots, we caught 3 good ones and had two little guys that just didn’t want to leave us … we weighed 18.80lbs that got us 13th place . It was the best week I’ve had in a long time fishing with Steve really rejuvenated me and opened my eyes to what the bass are really doing . Sometimes we all get a little stubborn and don’t see the big picture well at least I do and I had all the clues and just didn’t realize.. So its time to start catching these Big Guntersville Bass.

Water temps have jumped up been seeing mid 70s to low 80s and the clarity is good in most areas and dingy in others.

Lake Guntersville Bass In All 3 Stages

Lake Guntersville is giving up a-lot of bass to the tune of 30-50 a day.
The only draw back is for me is that they are in the 2-3 pound range, now we have seen a big one every now and then. The lake is fishing really good for numbers you can go shallow or deep but everything in between is like a ghost town.



So what does this mean? We feel that the bass are a little messed up from the flooding and constant fronts at least one every 5-7 days, some are spawning and some are post spawn and the crazy thing is all the pre spawn bass we are still catching. So YES they are in all 3 stages.



The big ones will show up and we will be on the water when they do.
But in the mean time we are going to catch every single bass that bites our lures.

Water Temp is hanging around 65-70 and is dingy in most areas from the wind.

We are really looking forward to doing some scanning with the new Lowrance HDS Live Unit paired with the new C-Map finding some overlooked places where the bass have been hiding the past few years is going to be a good time .

Risbeck Catches Dodge Ram Bass

Fish are biting but the big ones are not reliable, not sure if it’s the crazy weather or are they are just pressured.. One things for sure we have an abundance of 2 pound bass.

Water temps have been hanging around the mid 60s and the clarity is spotty due to the wind and rain.

Had to fish Neely for the ABA and it was typical Neely for me but on the bright side my co took 3rd place and one buddy Ethan got a check and my other Buddy Adam Caught His Personal Best Spotted Bass On the only day of practice. Congrats guys!

Madness Of March 2019 chapter 3 busting wide open

We are seeing some big fish show up on the end of our lines. Lake Guntersville Bass are wanting to be wide open but there is just something missing… We’ve had a full moon the water is steadily warming ( 54 in the mornings 60 late day ) catching quality with a big un or two mixed in… Wheres the wad’s of bass grouped up? I can only think that they are coming, each day this week staging spots have had a good un on it , getting them in the boat has been a struggle this week but we did get some in.. one morning you catch em fast in like 20 mins then its one here one there most of the day or its one here one there pretty much all day. We did find a grass line that was loaded up with 3-4 pounders that bit for a good hour, checked it a couple of days later it was like a ghost town not one peck.. They are moving by the hour, where too? The backs of pockets and the back of creeks. Catching some with the red eyes and thats just something my buddy Bertus and I have noticed when they are about to go on bed and while they are on bed so yes I believe we are within days of the seams busting and they will be everywhere it’ll almost seem like it happen overnight. Like last week I felt that it could be the week … well the cold nights and brutal north wind really held them off.. Maybe it’ll be this week but one things for sure April has always been a month you can mark your calendar that the bass on Guntersville will be spawning..

John and Paula spent two days as well on Gville with their 1st day getting cut short due to a and eye getting scratched by a contact ( and John did lose a Big Ole Bass ) and the 2nd days was full of catching and Paula didn’t want John to feel bad by himself .. yep she lost her a Big Ole Bass as well… Oh and John is a heck of a chef, I got some of the smoked tenderloin and burger and it was freaking awesome…

Madness Of March 2019 chapter 2 the bass are hungry

The Ups and Downs of the Pre SPAWN. Its been a great week for us, we have had to change how we caught em each day.. what we mean is that one day they was buried up in the grass then the next we had to catch them suspended out off the grass lines or dragging the bottom with a variety of lures. We been bundled up and we’ve been in just long sleeved shirts its been a roller coster of weather and this week coming up looks to be 1st stable week we will get to see and a full moon. Things could get interesting.

So the crappie was 17 1/4 inches long weighed 3 pounds 12 ounces that is the largest crappie I’ve ever caught it was a beast .

The fish don’t seem to be everywhere ( just yet ) but when you stumble on to some they seem to be hungry to where you have to get the bait out of the back of their mouth.

Madness Of March 2019 chapter 1 Lovegrove Lands Lunker

Lake Guntersville has been seeing some crazy weather since the 1st of the year, and Monday March 4th 2019 wasn’t any different. It was cold, snowing, and the wind was blowing 20 mph ideal fishing day … right?? YEP. Especially if happened to be David Lovegrove, He caught his personal best in these conditions a 10lb 12oz Lake Guntersville Largemouth Bass and thats how you kick off the Madness Of March 2019 .

It went down like this: we had just fished a stretch of grass that has had a good amount of bass in it , when we was getting within the last 20 yards of it I had made the comment ” I can not believe we didn’t get a bite in this stretch” it wasn’t even 2 seconds after that came out of my mouth Davids rod doubled over and the fight was on. The bass tried to jump but just couldn’t get out of the water she just wallered and when she was doing that I could see she just had one hook in her, she came up a 2nd time and I watched the crank bait get its front hooks into her bottom lip right before she went back down, so the 3rd time she surfaced she was within arms reached and with her mouth being wide open I stuck my hand in her mouth and got a good grip and pulled her in the boat.. Talk about a rush.

Fishing has been up and down just like the weather, when we get the 2-3 days of warming the bass start to feed up just a little better then they was when it was cold and cloudy, we start to get a pattern on them then it just falls apart with the next cold front… I do feel that once we get the water mid 50’s and higher the bass will start to flood into spawning areas and begin making beds..

I want to congratulate Jake and Fisher on their 2nd place finish in the FLW High School Tournament this past weekend here on Guntersville they had 21-14lbs and they qualify for the championship ..

Fished the ABA Open on Saturday and finished 7th with 21.64lbs  had all the same size no real big bites and that was just fine with me.

Lake Guntersville Pre Spawn Time

Largemouth Bass are moving into staging areas daily and super shallow… And Mother Nature is doing her thing … up and down temps and plenty of rain.. If you look back one year you’ll remember a warming trend that had many of us wearing shorts and hoodies.. But this year we are bundled up for most of the week.

Now with the rain predicted for the next 4-6 days it will shake things up , these fish have had current since October and its kept them in general areas and fairly active. If the water gets muddy then it’ll take them a few days to adjust to the conditions ( remember we are dealing with Florida Strain ) and it’ll take us a little bit to find the right lure they’ll want to eat.

What we’d like to see after all this rain is some warmer temps and stable water levels .. This will help a consistent bite and bigger bass getting more aggressive and will chase down moving baits.

The Calm Before Storm

How about the weather this past week? Awesome Right!!!? Man has it changed the fishing… Did it warm up to quick? The fishing has slowed up, and the lake seems to be showing signs of spring time. Ive heard tree frogs daily, seen plenty of pelicans, and the geese are acting like crazy. Now the bass are acting funky.

Maybe this cold snap will shape things up..   Heres the lake update. water temps 55-60 depending on where your at,, water clarity is perfect for this time of year, still plenty of floating grass.

We have been fishing a lot of water for our bites, we have caught numbers one day then not so many on other days. Things are changing rapidly and for the folks that have your dates booked, I believe your gonna be in great shape, things are going to get really stupid here in a week and should continue till post spawn.
