70’s in January & Big Bass

After the cold last week the Big G has not missed a lick, with having the best day of fishing in a long time with some real Donkeys and 70 degree days this place is about to pop off in a big way. What I mean is we have a week of warm weather and the bass have 2 things on their mind and they are Eating & Spawning .. The bass are so fat they look like they’ve swallowed a softball or two…

Water temp is now up to 51 and earlier in the week it was 44 and a lot of floating grass..

still fishing grass lines with a lipless crank bait and now a jerk bait just mixing it up..

Im going to keep catching these bass, and your more then welcome to come join me and get some bass palm..

The Calm Before The Arctic Blast 1/8/17

I enjoyed a really good day of fishing last week here on the Big G guess you could call it some “Me Time”.
The fish had moved a little since New Year’s Day, after some time of fishing with no bites I had to think about what could’ve changed…. Couldn’t think of anything so I decided to try another spot and started getting bites and all I can figure out was the timing of the spot.

Water temp 50 degrees and clarity was good

Still working lipless on grass lines along with jerkbaits on rock. Using a 7’3 Duckett Fishing Med. Hvy. with 14lb Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon for both techniques.
Had to work for my bites but they where worth the effort.

Happy New Year 2017 & A BitterSweet 2016

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves on New Years Eve, as for Belle and I we was in bed early awaiting the alarm clock for the 1st tournament of the year!

Fishing has made its swing towards early spring time fishing here on the Big G and its a great way to kick off 2017 , ripping lipless out of grass, jerk bait off points, I do look forward to this year after year as do a lot of you do!

We took 5th with 18-14lbs had two rug rats, there was 2 other 18 lb bags then a 20 and a 22 ( MacMahan) … We decided to fish the New Years Day Tournament after the guide trips I had this past week, my customers put some really good bass in the boat this week even in the rain. Water temps have been hanging steady 48-50 degrees, been clear with some dingy from recent rains, still a lot of grass attached and floating..

We sent 2016 off in style.. These guys worked hard all morning to put this bag together.

We have been focusing on grass lines that are not as thick as others, trying to keep the lipless above the grass and just ticking it, it is not easy fishing but it is producing great fish, other is a jerk bait off grass points. I feel like the areas we have been fishing are reloading as we are fishing them with getting fish off key spots through out the trip, so this tells me the fish are thinking pre spawn. If this weather stays like it has I’m pretty certain the bass will start to get really active in the upcoming weeks.

2016 was a year to remember it had some low times and really high times.

Won a boat in a ABA, took a 3rd in a BFL (my dad was in town from Ohio and was able to be there), made the day 2 cut in a BFL Super Tournament, had more customers catch their Personal Best with me… the list goes on.

Now the lows… lol the fish moved more then I’ve ever seen on this lake (lack of current), if you caught them today here you wasn’t gonna catch them there for a few days again, more boats on the lake .. double edge knife great for the area economy tough on the fishing….

In 2016 there was only one 5 fish limit weighing over 30 pounds in any recorded tournament on Lake Guntersville and Im blessed to have it, Steve Hatfield and I had 31.15 lbs in the ABA Ram 100% Team Plus on March 26th.

Did Not Go Down As Planned On Black Friday

I think the Black Friday Tournament has to be the tournament I look forward to every year. And was I getting pumped and on Thanksgiving day I was so excited I had a hard time sleeping. I had not see the fishing this good in awhile, I mean calling your shots type of fishing.. The kind I like and who would not like it.

Leading up to Friday we had many patterns working from flippin docks to top water. Well Friday rolled around and the 1st stop did not pay off then stop number 2 had one trying to eat my spook but he was just as excited as I he kept doing cartwheels over it needless to say he gave up.. Stop 3 gave up a limit nothing big but we had to start somewhere.. stop 4 was full of floating grass then 5, 6, 7, 8 didnt produce crazy!! So at that point we knew they changed over night and heck I wouldnt expect anything less out of these bass, so we went to where we had a giant on Thanksgiving Day and nothing so we moved in a little and Thomas jacked a nice one and backed up with another good one … so we figured we had them pegged.. well 2 hours later I lose 2 really good one ( right dont lose any on guide trips in weeks and I choke on game day) so we change up once again and move and catch one that culls and we head back to stop number 4 and I lose yet another one and it was a dandy we keep at it and I hook another one and I do get this one in the boat but at the same time Thomas is hooked up as we so it was a happy time but mine was the only bass so few mins later He hooks up again and this time its a solid bass and she come unbutton inches from the net.. So if your counting thats 5 solid fish (counting the spook fish) not gonna say what the weight of them because I didnt get to touch them but its fishing so we rolled up with an hour to fish on a spot that just looked like they should be there and no luck. It was time to head in and I was very upset with myself for fishing so sloppy we cant win them all but man when you had the bites to do well and cant get them in the boat it really hurts.. We took 5th with 14.74 lbs we had 2 in that bag that was 1-14lbs dinks but hey learned a lot. And one thing it seems the lake is a month behind on the fishing so its looking like things will be good thru December , we have most days open in December if you want to catch some really nice bass out here..

With the supermoon throwing a curveball at us we just had to change up just a little, scaled down to a Big Thump worm on a 3/8oz Picasso Tungsten weight worked on grass lines in 6-8 foot of water and still a walk the dog style bait for top water explosions that we catch you off guard, you’ll want to focused on the same grass lines as well. Happy Halloween Bass Fishing Report

Its October 31st and the high for the day will be 88 degrees. We got a brief taste of fall weather a week ago and it started the fall transition and things was looking like they would be ready to bust loose and then the heat is back and it seems the bass are in limbo. Not saying that we are not catching fish its just the size that we like, now we are catching anywhere from 20-60 fish a day some are 8 inches to 4 pounds , you just never know how big the next bite will be…. I guess that is whats keeping us on edge. Water temps 67-76 thats morning to dark

Caught a Guntersville Small Mouth last week I was just as excited as I was the 1st one I ever caught.

Here is whats going on out there: They are on the move back under the mats and blowing on a frog but still not really taking it under … its still fun but reeling them in is better . Grass lines in 5-7 feet of water has been pretty good for spinnerbaits and lipless cranks. Still not seeing the big ones like I want to but im sure with the warm weather they are stuck in the limbo stage waiting for it to get cold.

Been a busy week. Fishing is still good just have to keep an open mind. The frog has been the go to bait, and a close second is dropping a heavy weight on em.

Doug and his wife landed a few good bass !

These young men reeled in a few fish with us when the bass wouldn’t cooperate.

Some grass bass, after being in Texas all week it was great to fish the grass again.

I had the opportunity to go to Lake Conroe and help a client break down the lake and see what it had to offer, and it is a tough lake with millions of brush piles and 10,000 docks but I think we dialed the lake in.

After looking for hours I get this bite that just hammered it and started ripping drag then she tried to jump and couldn’t get herself out of the water,.after a good fight we land her and take a pic and let her go. After retiring and lining up and made another cast and her sister bites!!

Well we got it narrowed down on day one!

Day 2 we started on a spot that had the same stuff as the spot from day one and 5 cast in and this Tank ate it! Hopefully it all holds together and he wins ! And it will punch his ticket to the BassMaster Classic!!

October 9th Bass Fishing Report

Wind! We had some high winds the past few days from Hurricane Matthew 30+ mph gust!

The fishing was ok this past week with the temps back to high 80s low 90s the bass didn’t want to be in the grass mats totally but we did manage to snatch a few out of them.

We focused on cheesey mats and scattered grass and changing up our frog retrieve each day to get the bites. We avg. 20 blow ups a trip and would land half on a good day.

water temps fell to 71 in the mornings.

We will continue to frog till the mats go away or less a better way to catch them comes along!

Froggin Times on Lake Guntersville

Froggin Season is upon us!

The cooler weather has kicked the frog bite into overdrive. The bass have made a big push to the grass mats. The fun has begun, if your looking for a day of frog action then now is the time to book your trip with us!

Open mind and short memory was my key to catching bass the last 3 weeks!

Just getting out there and not driving right to where you caught one maybe 5 the day before was hard but it was easier then pulling up and not getting a bite! These bass have been on the move for awhile now, some are still deep out on a ledge like in front of the yacht club or the lower end of alreds , a drop shot or shskey head will get you some bites but other then that the grass is slowly improving!

We have looked from 3 ft out to 12 ft in the grass for them and on day you’d have an exact depth and could really wear them out to the tune of 30 bass and a bad day would be 10 bass.

Now if this year has taught me anything it has been that I really like to have successful days and I had to use a lure that was non existent on my boat for at least 8 years, it’s not that I dislike this lure but I’ve just slowly stopped using it and it was the bait that I learned to bass fish with heck I won a championship on one in the 1st year of my fishing career. Well the old trusty spinnerbait has carried me and I’ve found a new one that I really like it is made by Picasso and its the 1/2 oz white chart double willow blade. The big worm produced on some days we used NetBait C Mac in Green Pumpkin. And a BD 2.5 SquareBill in Green Gizzard. Some days we could Flip and Frog so you can see that our deck would have a few Duckett Rods n Reels on it. Our line choice for the moving baits was Sunline Sniper 16 lb and for the worm is 12 lb Sniper and for Froggin n Flippin is Sunline FX2 Braid.

It’s been from Mud creek to Honeycomb that we’ve fished and from the front to the backs of the creeks . Here’s the results you better be close to deep water and have a hard bottom under the grass and focus on 6-8 feet of water.

Fished in the FLW BFL Super Tournament last weekend and made the cut for day two it was my 1st time doing this so of course it was a victory to me, finished 20th amongst the Big G Sticks and with September being my weakest time on the lake I feel that I can say I’m ready for next September already!
